How To Open SGI Files

DESCRIPTION:

An SGI file extension is an acronym for a Silicon Graphics Incorporated file, a non-descript raster image file used by devices running the Silicon Graphics image-editing application, made by Silicon Graphics Incorporated. SGI images are generic bitmap files used to store images in color, grayscale, or black and white. Images in SGI format could be uncompressed or compressed using Run Length Encoding (RLE) format. They also are capable of containing optional alpha transparency with either color or monochrome images. Files of this type store image information from 8 to 32 bits per pixel. Uncompressed files contain a header and the image data. For RLE compressed files, an offset table is included between the header and image file. SGI files are similar in format and content to RGB files.
