How To Open RPF Files

An RPF file extension is an acronym for Rich Pixel Format, a bitmap image, developed by Wavefront Technologies. These files can be opened, edited, and rendered in Autodesk 3ds or Adobe After Effects software programs. RPF images are upgraded versions of RLA images, adding a Z depth dimension to the file for three dimensional viewing. RPF files are multi-channel, 32-bit images, with the channels being selectable by the file author to add post-production data, set-up information, and image effects. RLA and RPF images were originally developed by Wavefront Technologies in the mid-90s for the motion picture industry to build animation. There are five other types of files that carry the same extension, so users who are having difficulty opening this type of file should make sure the association is correct for the file type.
