How To Open PPTX Files

Created by Microsoft, these types of files are similar to the original PPT files but have a higher functioning capability. This format creates files using the open XML format that stores the information in a different way. With PPT, the slides are saved as one binary file whereas in PPTX, the documents are stored separately and then compressed in a zip file. This file type also allows for all of the properties to be preserved. The macros, charts and all other media files that are associated with the PPTX are also saved. The fact that everything is saved as separate files also allows PPTX files to be much more accessible than PPT files. In addition, these files can be accessed in PowerPoint 2007 and later when using Windows. If you are using Mac OS X or later these type files can be accessed with PowerPoint 2008.
