How To Open MDS Files

An MDS file extension is a media descriptor file, a binary text file associated primarily with Alcohol 120% application software. MDS files are created when a CD or DVD is imaged. The binary file type carries the identifying characters MEDIA DESCRIPTOR in ASCII format. MDS files contain metadata describing the original optical media, namely the position of layer breaks or breach bits, properties of the copyright protection on DVDs. An MDS file accompanies an MDF file, which is the actual media file. Files of this type are created using optical disc imaging software. It is used primarily by the Alcohol 120% application, however some other disc and simulator tools use it as well. It is a popular program for backing up duplicate copies of game discs.
