How To Open INF Files

DESCRIPTION:

An INF file extension denotes a configuration text file that houses all of the information necessary for a particular program to be installed and run. It is used by Windows-based operating systems. Among other requirements of the setup program, INF files contain registry, driver, version, and installation instructions, as well as information about the destination location of the files and the directory in which the files are located. The files are written in plain text and can be opened and read by a variety of text-editing software programs. INF files that run on versions of Windows prior to XP can be harmful to the operating system, as the file may autorun without any prompting, inadvertently downloading viruses to the operating system if they are present in the file. INF files are similar in format and content to INI files.
