How To Open EXE Files

An EXE file extension is associated with an executable program file, used in Microsoft Windows and DOS operating systems. Executable files are designed to begin running as soon as they are opened in the operating system, and can be applications or a set of instructions to start a program on the computer. EXE files contain all of the text, images, icons, and graphics necessary to see the graphical user interface (GUI) in an application. EXE files will not run directly on Mac OS X operating systems. Executable files come in two formats for Microsoft operating systems – 32 bit and 64 bit. The 32-bit executables are the most complex and came into being with Microsoft Windows NT, and can be run on all windows operating systems. 64-bit EXE files were introduced with Windows XP.
