How To Open DOC Files

Before Microsoft, the DOC extension was commonly used for text documents. However, it has become synonymous with Microsoft when Bill Gates decided to use it as a proprietary extension back in the 90s. Since that time, any file with the .doc extension will be opened using Microsoft Word. Consequently, if your computer does not have Microsoft Word, it will send back an error message that the file or document cannot be opened. If you have found the need to open this type of document, luckily, there is an option to save the document in text format before sending it, making it accessible to those recipients that don’t have the Microsoft program. Fortunately, newer Word programs such as 2007 and 2010 can open up older documents saved with the DOC extension.
