A BMQ file extension is a raw, uncompressed image format proprietarily developed and marketed by NuCore Technology. Since its development of the file format, NuCore was purchased by MediaTek, who now owns the rights to the file, its technology, and its marketing. BMQ files contain raw, unedited image data, as well as metadata, including the date, time, content, and raw parameters, among other things. BMQ files can be large, and since they are raw data as well, must be converted before they can be used by other programs or stored as PNG, JPEG, or TIFF files. Once converted, BMQ files can be opened, read, and edited by any standard image-editing software program. The file format is supported across all major computer operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac.
