How To Open BMP Files
DESCRIPTION: BMP (Bitmap Image File) is an uncompressed raster graphics image file used in Windows to store bitmap digital images.
A BMP file extension’s main function is storing 2D digital images with varying width, height, color, and resolution specifications. A pixel, or “picture element” is the smallest addressable screen element in a display device; i.e. the smallest unit of a picture that can be controlled and represented. A BMP file uses a grid (otherwise known as a bitmap or raster) of pixels and assigns a specific location and color to each one. When put together using the assigned information the grid forms an image. BMP files store these raster graphics in a DIB format (device-independent bitmap) that is used with the Windows operating system. They may be stored using monochrome or color, and with varying color depths and you are unlikely to have a problem opening a these files due to its common usage.
